Captain Controversy! Captain Blood stirs up some odd vibes in defending indie publishers
I was hoping somebody would take notice of the Captain Blood and the Peril of Indie Comics thinger, but I wasn’t quite expecting to be taken to task — Johanna Draper Carlson has some views on the thesis of the thing over at Comics Worth Reading. I’ve jumped into the debate, as has SLG EIC Jennifer de Guzman. It’s a good conversation, and I see where Carlson is coming from — possibly me hitting the wrong tone with the Captain Blood thing.

Thanks for your response there, Matt. I don’t think it was you hitting the wrong tone as much as me contrasting it badly with my recent MOCCA high. In other words, it’s weird to hear how customers ought to be doing more research and preordering when I’ve just come back from seeing so many good comics available for sampling. Most of which will likely never go through comic shops, so maybe that’s wrong of me to even compare the two. Anyway, thank you for gentlemanly behavior, more than I deserved.
